List of additional troubleshooting steps for crashing/performance issues
PCs are complex beasts and there are a number of things that can contribute to issues with performance and crashing that are unrelated to the game.
- Faulty drivers
- Windows updates
- Corrupted files (game data, settings data, system files)
- Third party applications
- Overclocks
The following, additional troubleshooting steps have been shared by community members who have been able to identify the cause and resolve their crashing issues as well as improve performance issues.
- Working your way up in potentially finding the cause of your issue
- Unplug all external unnecessary devices such as usb controllers / hubs
- Turn off all applications except the game (Overlays (steam, nvidia, hardware monitoring), Discord, OBS, Streamable, Mouse software, Keyboard software, Wallpaper engine, anything that you have running in addition to the game that isn’t a stock windows service/feature
- Launch the game and observe your system usage & temps
- If you do not experience a game crash, start turning on the apps you usually have open one by one and repeating this step until you notice / experience an issue
- Find missing and repair corrupted system files by running the system file check (SFC) and Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM)
